Before and After

Before and after headlight restoration in Naples FL: oxidized yellow lens on the left, clear lens on the right, same truck
Headlight restoration at our shop on 174 5th St. Same truck, same day. Real before and after, no filter.

The lens on your car is polycarbonate with a thin factory UV coating. In Southwest Florida that coating fails in a few years, the plastic under it oxidizes, and the lens goes yellow and dim. Restoration removes the failed layer and puts a new one on. It is not a polish that wears off in a month.

How It’s Done

  1. Book online or text. Pick the slot that suits you. If the lenses are cracked or fogged on the inside, text a photo first; those are replacement jobs, not restoration, and we will say so.
  2. Mask and inspect. Paint and trim around the lens are taped. We check for cracks, internal moisture, and previous kit coatings.
  3. Remove the oxidation. The yellowed, failed factory coating is sanded off in stages, then the lens is machine-polished back to clear.
  4. Protect it. A UV protectant coating goes on the clear lens. This is the step the kits skip, and it is why they haze again.
  5. Walkthrough. Same truck, same day, side by side with the photo we took at the start.

Keeping Them Clear

  • Wash it like paint. Hand wash or touchless. Brush washes scratch lenses the same way they scratch clear coat.
  • Skip the abrasives. No magic erasers, toothpaste, or kit compounds on a restored lens; they take the protective coating off.
  • Shade helps. UV is what yellowed it. Parking in shade or a garage stretches the result.

Headlight Restoration FAQs

How much does headlight restoration cost?

It is a fixed price you can see and book above: $150. The price covers both headlights. Text us with your vehicle if you want to confirm what is included before booking.

How long does it take?

About 60 minutes. Book it with a detail and it happens while the car is here.

Is professional headlight restoration worth it?

Restoring a lens costs a fraction of replacing the assembly, and on a car more than five years old it is usually the single most visible improvement. It also puts light back on the road: yellowed lenses cut output, and Florida rain at night is not where you want that.

Why do headlights turn yellow?

The lens is polycarbonate with a factory UV coating on top. UV at this latitude breaks that coating down, and once it fails the plastic underneath oxidizes and clouds. Restoration removes the failed layer and puts a new UV layer on.

Do DIY kits, WD-40, or toothpaste work?

They can clear the haze for a while because they are removing or wetting the oxidized surface. What most of them do not do is sand the failed coating off completely and seal the lens with a UV protectant, so the lens is left bare and starts clouding again. A proper restoration is sanding, polishing, and a protective coating; that last step is what the quick fixes skip.

What can’t restoration fix?

Cracks, condensation inside the housing, and yellowing on the inside of the lens. Those need a replacement assembly. We will tell you from a photo before you book.

How long does it last?

That depends on the UV coating, how the car is parked, and how it is washed. We do not promise a number here; we tell you what we applied and how to keep it, and the care list above is the whole secret.
