Paint Correction in Naples FL

Paint correction removes the scratches and haze between your car and a mirror finish. Removed, not hidden.

What Paint Correction Is

Your paint is a base color layer under a clear coat about the thickness of a sheet of paper. Every swirl, water spot, and light scratch you see lives in the top few microns of that clear coat. Paint correction uses a machine polisher and a graduated set of abrasives to level the clear coat down to just below the defects, so light reflects off a flat surface again. That is where the mirror look comes from.

It is the difference between a finish that looks good for a month and one that looks good for years. Waxes and glazes fill defects and wash out. Correction removes them.

Why It Matters in Southwest Florida

Naples paint has three enemies. UV at this latitude cooks clear coat until it hazes and oxidizes, which is why so many white and black cars here look chalky by year five. Salt air and daily rain leave mineral spots that etch into the surface. And the automatic brush washes on 41 grind sand into the paint in a spiderweb pattern you can see in every parking lot at noon.

None of that is permanent if the clear coat is intact. Correction resets the surface. A ceramic coating on top is what keeps it from happening again.

Our Process

  1. Text for a quote. Send the vehicle, color, and a photo of the paint in sunlight if you have one. We reply same day with a range and a date to bring it in.
  2. Paint inspection. Decontamination wash, iron remover, clay bar, then the car goes under inspection lights. We read paint thickness on every panel with a depth gauge and note anything that has been repainted or is too thin to cut.
  3. Test spot. One section, one pad and compound combination, checked under light. That tells us whether one-step gets there or the car needs two, and you get a firm price before we do the rest.
  4. Correction. Panel by panel, compound then polish, edges and body lines taped. Wet sanding where the test spot said it was needed.
  5. Panel wipe and final inspection. Every panel is wiped with a solvent to strip polishing oils so nothing is hiding. Then it goes back under the lights.
  6. Protection. A sealant is included so you drive out protected. Most customers step up to a ceramic coating here, which is what keeps a corrected finish looking corrected in Florida.

What Moves the Price

Vehicle size, paint hardness (German and Japanese paints polish very differently), how deep the defects go, and whether any panels need wet sanding. We give you a range by text before you drive over and a firm number after the test spot. Ceramic coating is quoted with it if you want both; correction plus coating together is always less than doing them separately.

Yellowed headlights are a separate, fixed-price job: headlight restoration, bookable online.

After Correction

Correction and Ceramic Coating

A ceramic coating is a hard, clear layer that locks in whatever is underneath it. Coat swirled paint and you have locked in swirls for years. That is why correction is the mandatory first step before any coating worth paying for, and why a coating quote from anyone should include a conversation about the paint condition first.

The reverse is also true: correction without a coating in Naples is a finish with a clock on it. The sun and salt that created the damage are still there tomorrow. Most of our correction customers add a Nano Pro or Dura Coat ceramic coating in the same visit, and anyone worried about rock chips on I-75 adds Liquid PPF on the front end.

Paint Correction FAQs

How much does paint correction cost?

One-step correction starts at $400 on a typical car. Two-step and wet sanding are quoted after the inspection and test spot, because a black Escalade with ten years of brush washes and a hand-washed white Camry are not the same job. You get a range by text before you drive over and a firm number after the test spot.

Does paint correction remove scratches?

Scratches that live in the clear coat, yes: swirls, light scratches where a fingernail does not catch, water spot etching, holograms from a bad buff. If a fingernail catches, the scratch is through the clear coat and correction can only soften the edges; that spot needs touch-up or paint, and we will tell you before we start.

Is paint correction just buffing?

A car wash "buff" is usually a glaze or filler wax that hides swirls for a few weeks. Paint correction removes a measured amount of clear coat with a machine and abrasive so the defect is physically gone. We measure paint thickness before and after; a car wash does not.

Is it worth getting a paint correction?

On a car you plan to keep, yes, especially paired with a coating that will keep it looking that way. On a lease with a year left, probably a one-step and a good sealant. We will say so.

How long does a paint correction last?

The defects it removed do not come back on their own; new ones come from the same things that caused the first set: brush washes, sun, salt. With hand washing and a sealant it looks corrected for a season or more; with a ceramic coating on top, for years.

Do I need one-step or two-step correction?

One-step handles light swirls and haze on a car that has been washed reasonably well. Two-step is for deeper scratches, heavy swirling from years of automatic washes, oxidation, and any car going under a ceramic coating where the owner wants a true mirror. We tell you which after the inspection, not before.

Will correction thin my paint too much?

A full two-step removes roughly 2 to 5 microns of clear coat on a typical factory finish of 35 to 50. We measure with a paint depth gauge on every panel first. Cars with previous heavy corrections or thin resprays get a lighter approach or a pass.

How long does paint correction take?

One-step: most of a day. Two-step: one to two days. Add a day if a ceramic coating is going on after, because the coating needs a clean, cured surface and its own cure time.

What is wet sanding and when do you use it?

Wet sanding levels the surface with very fine abrasive paper and water before polishing. We use it on deep isolated scratches, orange peel on resprays, and hard-baked oxidation that polishing alone will not cut. It is a certified skill for a reason: done wrong, it burns through paint. Dura Coat Technology certified us specifically in correction and wet sanding.

Can I do paint correction myself?

With a dual-action polisher, patience, and a paint depth gauge, a light one-step on a car you do not mind learning on. Without the gauge you are guessing how much clear coat is left, and that is how DIY corrections end in a repaint.

What about oxidized paint on an older truck or a boat?

Oxidation is dead clear coat (or dead gelcoat) on the surface. Compound removes it and restores gloss as long as there is material underneath. Trucks and RVs are quoted here; boats are on the boat detailing page.

Do you fix headlights too?

Yes, as its own service: headlight restoration is a fixed price you can book online.
